2009 Annual Competition

On 1st November East Marden held its Annual Prize Shoot which had a full complement of shooters.  Some of these shooters came from as far as Mildura and Naracoorte to take part in this event.  We had some people who have attended prize shoots and also some new faces.

The day started early and we were expecting a hot day, and we were disappointed that the weatherman actually got it right.  However, the skill and quality of the participants was very high and the scores presented were completed in extreme conditions (yes we even had some wind in the afternoon).

There were 3 events Prone, Benchrest Target and Sporting Rifle.  The 20 metre events were held in the morning and gave some of us memories of how different it was to shoot during the day.  It seems that all this shooting certainly made people build up an appetite and so when the bbq lunch (prepared by Messrs Couzner and Beattie) and guarded by Lennie was served at 1pm it was eagerly devoured.  It must have been the smell wafting through the firing point and club house (apologies to all those people who suffered)

After the break, it was back to the fierce competition between all for the 50 metre honours.  At this time the mirage and wind was starting to have an effect on participants with a multitude of original reasons as to why that one went too high or wide.  Much to our visitors surprise we actually do have windflags which assisted in their endeavours to shoot a perfect score.

At the end of the day when the last shot had been fired and everyone was relaxing, the final scores showed that all categories were hotly contested with the winners of the Benchrest in the 50m being decided on X counts

The committee would like to thank all the competitors for taking part in this years shoot and to all the volunteers, From the target changers, to the Range officers and the Scorers who helped make the day the success it has become over the years.
